Saigon street names have changed over the years depending upon the political system in power. Tu Do (Freedom) under the RVN government was called Rue Catinat under the French, named after Nicolas Catinat, a 17th century general. It is now Dong Khoi (Liberation). Ho Huan Nghiep retained it's name. It was called Rue Turc when the French were in charge.

The shop houses pictured now contain a coffee shop, Indian restaurant and a foot massage parlor. A women's clothing store and upscale Vietnamese restaurant occupy the building at the left. The Myst Dong Khoi hotel has replaced some of the old buildings at the right.
