Vung Tau's Front Beach (Bai Truoc) was lined with refreshment stands, selling soft drinks, beer and snacks. Many offered beach chair rentals, umbrellas and inner tube floaters for rent. Roving vendors like the one above patrolled the area. Weekends brought visitors from Saigon. 

Known as Cap St.Jacques to the French, Vung Tau was referred to as Cap Xanh Giac in Vietnamese. To go there was to "Di Cap".
