This is a 168 page comprehensive Saigon business directory. While undated, advertising indicates that it was published in 1934. It presents an interesting view of colonial Saigon in the years prior to WW II.
Most every sort of business and municipal service is listed with addresses and
three digit telephone numbers. The telephone exchange was expanded in 1936 or
1937 to permit numbers with five digits for a growing number of subscribers.
Bus, train, airline and steamship information is listed in detail along with suggested excursions into the countryside. An ad for Air France indicates that it took week to fly from Marseille to Saigon, leaving on Sunday, arriving the following Sunday, via a circuitous route.
Below are some of the ads from the 1934 Guide Pratique.
A large folded map of central Saigon was in the back of the book.
